Car insurance question?

i had car insurance and they cancelled on me so i cancelled the direct debit it has been two months since. i have been to the bank and they have taken 487.00 out of my account which has left me with on 12 pound to live on for a month when i rung the bank they stated that they had used my visa details when i rung the insurance they stated that this is what i owed and they can do this and are not willing to give me my money back is there anything i can do they have financially left me with nothing
