After replevin case is won, how can I be sure that I am compensated for lost and damaged property?

After a replevin case, how can I be sure that I will be getting compensated for my lost and damaged items? From what I am told the defendant can just not pay, and that it's my responsibility to acquire through other means or my own my compensation. In what ways can I guarantee that I am compensated? I read that I can go to the defendants bank, place of buisness and file papers to have their credit attacked? License taken away? What other ways can I be sure I am getting what I am owed?
